Happy Music

My Sister in Law likes Metallica. I can honestly say that my teenage biases have stopped me from ever listening to that music with an open mind. So I downloaded "Enter Sandman" (because it was the most popular of their songs on i-tunes) and I have to admit, that while its not the worst music ever, I won't be rushing out to buy the rest of the album. I won't even be going slowly out to buy the album. Definitely a matter of tastes.

The other day coming back from Phoenix I listened to a bunch of happy tunes and when I got home that combined with the joy of being with my children created a positively euphoric mood. (I think my wife was a little freaked.)

I remember that my twin used to listen to some heavy metal tune just before a football game. He swore that it would rev him up.

I have no doubt that music CAN alter your emotions. While I don't think that it always does.

One of my all time favorites is "Man its so loud in here" by They Might Be Giants. My favorite Lulliby is "Cradle Song" by Shriekback (Cool, I just found out that they have a new album.) So I'm curious. What music do you listen to to put you on top? ...If for any reason you are tempted to say "Afterglow" for any reason. Just stop yourself. You know that can't be your favorite. (Whoa! I just found out they made it out of the '80s.)

Mocking Afterglow?
I think that is your personal ticket to hell.
It's sad when you have to mock other's preference in music.

Sniff, sniff.
Now where did I put that last Afterglow album?
Oh yeah, it's been banned from our house since I married you.

How sad is that?
Imposing one's preferences upon those with whom they live.

For me, a rousing Nylons song, or the Joseph/Dreamcoat soundtrack are pretty high on making me happy list.
But you have to remember that music is not life for me as it is for you.
My experience is limited and my variety small.

You probably wouldn't like my "Crazy Train" ringtone, either, *sniff*.

I like my Phantom CD when I'm feeling down, but just about any music works for me (except for Jazz, rap/ hiphop, and R&B).

Sweetheart - For the Nylons, Bop 'til you drop or Bumblee Buzz (A european release) are my favorites. For Joseph Track 8 "Close Every Door" Yeah...Good music

Jamie So...Crazy Train, I'm afraid I don't even know who sang it. I'm with you on the jazz, rap, hiphop, and R&B but I have found the occassional outlier. I like, In the Land of 1,000,000 Drums by Outtake (I heard it on the Scooby Doo soundtrack.) And I hate to say it, its hiphop.

You downloaded a Metallica song without first asking the Metallica fan for their suggestions?? That's like getting an Afterglow song for your Mormon music sampler just because you know they're a Mormon music group.
(By the way, I actually pulled up some of their music & listened to it because of your tribute. Brought back some fond memories.)

If you choose to give Metallica another whirl, I would suggest the following songs (In this order):
1) Mama Said
2) Nothing Else Matters
3) Unforgiven 2
4) Hero of the Day

I know it's an acquired music taste (as many groups are), but the instrumental aspect blows me away. I've got a couple albums that are Metallica songs with no lyrics (performed by other artists). Quite impressive to me.

My pick-me-ups are OLDIES. I have a mix of some of my faves. Comejolo, Shrek is one of my favorites as well. Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Jimmy Eat World, and a couple of other random alternative rock bands are my gray-skies-turned-blue music. & although I don't own Nylons or They Might Be Giants, you have definitely helped me acquire a huge liking for them.

Thanks!

What Jamie is not telling you is that she uses "Crazy Train" as her ringtone for calls from me. I'm not sure what exactly that is supposed to mean... And yes, that was one of my prefootball favorites along with "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Bohemian Rhapsody". As for my favorite Metallica, you can't go wrong with "One".

Now, my list, I find myself listening to Everclean a lot lately (good and funny), Mighty Mighty Bosstones, any early
Garth Brooks, and I am a sucker for soundtracks (Truman Show, The Mission, Tombstone, Titanic... you get the picture)

LOL at Kristine's comment. My wife and I got quite a kick out of her defense of Afterglow.

I have to go with Enya for the end of a hectic day. Great speakers turned up loud and letting the amazing orcestrations wash over you is wonderful. However, since I don't have great speakers it is usually headphones which still works OK.

I'd be very interested in the instrumental albums of Metallica by other artists.

My tastes
For fun - anything by Avril Lavigne, Erasure, or Sarah McLachlan. For inspiring awe anything by Nora Jones, Sarah Brightman, or the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. Classical favorites are Beethoven's Ode to Joy, Handel's Messiah, Vavaldi's Four Seasons, and Pachabelle's cannon. Mozart also has many great pieces. Finally, New Wave from the 80's also holds a soft spot for me.

For all you Mormon, light rock lovers out there you have to try Not My Mother's LDS Music, it has very impersion giving word, and the music can give them either up beat of soothing music. There is also Not My Mother's LDS Music 2, but I don't like it as much.
